Hummingbird With Moon

The Hummingbird and Moon was designed by Coast Salish artist, Joe Wilson (Sxwaset). Made on Vancouver Island out of 16 gauge stainless steel.

The Hummingbird is hovering in midair, face to the Moon. In the Moon, we see an Owl, or Eagle face. According to the artist, this is a matter of interpretation, and it makes sense to interpret the face of the Moon as an Owl, who are most active at night. 

Hummingbird brings comfort, beauty, and love to those in their life. They bring good luck and fortune with them.

Moon is the guardian of the people. They watch over us and can help us change the way we feel.

Joe Wilson was born in 1967 into the Cowichan Tribes Native Band and was raised in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada. Since 1984 his work has reflected his search for his own cultural identity in Coast Salish art.
