Earrings - Chilkat Lighting Bolt

Coast Salish artist Gerren Peters designed and made these gorgeous Sterling Silver Lightning Bolt earrings with Chilkat designs.

• Chilkat blankets were used a ceremonial robes worn on special occasions such as a potlatch where they might be presented to honor guests; in dancing; surrounding a body while it lay there in state; or occasionally hun on the outside of grave house as a token esteem. The Chilkat blanket held a key position on the Tlingit economy. It was widely known and highly valued even during the days of its maximum production.
