Cedar Graduation Hat - Small

The graduation hat is made out of woven cedar bark by Sechelt First Nation artist, Toni Frank. The band can be adjusted to the size of the wearers head with the ties at the back of the hat.

Before weavers can begin to put together these works of art there is a long process that must happen. They start by carefully stripping cedar from the trees, ensuring that they only take what is needed. When enough cedar is gathered they will soak it to ensure its malleability for the weaving process. And finally they begin their labor of love of actually weaving the hat together.
