The Raven plaque was hand-carved and painted by Kwakwaka'wakw artist, Joe Johnny.

Raven represents the Trickster archetype. Raven is responsible for putting the sun, moon, and stars into the sky.

Joe Johnny started carving in 1977. He learned from his uncle Charlie G. Walkus, as well as other carvers from Victoria to Alert Bay. He now carves with his son, Morris Johnny in Port Hardy, BC.
