The Huk Huk plaque was hand-carved and painted by Kwakwak'wakw artist, Joe Johnny.

Huk Huk is a supernatural cannibal bird. 

Joe Johnny started carving in 1977. He learned from his uncle Charlie G. Walkus, as well as other carvers from Victoria to Alert Bay. He now carves with his son, Morris Johnny in Port Hardy, BC.
