Earrings - Crooked Beak Mask
These beautiful Sterling Silver earrings were designed and hand carved by Coast Salish artist Gerren Peters. Designed as Crooked Beak Masks.
- The crooked beak mask represents one of several supernatural cannibal associates of Baxwbakwalanukwisw' the cannibal spirit, which in the form of bird like masks in the Tseka, or red bark cedar ceremony. These Hamatsa masks, are part of the inherited privilege of being a Hamatsa initiate. While the Hamatsa is the owner of the mask, he or she neither wears them nor performs their dance.
