The Killer Whale
The Killer Whale is used as a family crest by tribes all along the west coast. In mythical legend he is an emissary to “K’umuwgwi” or Wealthy One who lives in a huge house under the sea made of copper. This is depicted on the blow hole on one of the designs. Known to be pack hunters like wolves they are highly intelligent and very precise in their hunting. Also known to be social mammals, they travel in pods all up and down the coasts of North and South America. Another fact is, there are two ty[pes of these beautiful creatures, one eats salmon and the other seals, and they do not trespass on the other’s territory. A salmon is depicted on the forehead of the salmon man’s face on the tail.
