Plaque - Large Whale with Salmon & Raven

The Whale with Salmon and Raven plaque was hand-carved and painted by Penelakut artist, Delbert Peter. 

Whale symbolizes great strength, bravery, family, and unity.

Salmon is the life giver that represents every ending becoming a new beginning.

Raven is the curious trickster responsible for putting the sun, moon, and stars into the sky. This light bringer represents prestige and knowledge.

Delbert Peter is a Coast Salish carver from Penelakut (formerly Kuper) Island. Belonging to the Penelakut First Nation, the island is located in the southern Gulf Island chain in the Strait of Georgia, off the east coast of Vancouver Island.
