As a Coast Salish Carver, Delbert is from Penelakut (formerly Kuper) Island. Belonging to the Penelakut First Nation, the island is located in the southern Gulf Island chain in the Strait of Georgia, off the east coast of Vancouver Island. There are approximately 300 band members who live here on reserve and at the Tsussie Rd. Reserve in Westholme, and there are approximately 500 members who live off-reserve lands. The Penelakut are part of the Coast Salish (Salishan) linguistic group, and share in that extensive cultural heritage.
