Bentwood box designs by Shain Jackson. He is a Coast Salish artist from the First Nation community of Sechelt. He is also a lawyer who has represented Aboriginal communities throughout British Columbia.
Frog - The Communicator
Frogs are communicators. They symbolize encouragement, support, and bring good fortune to those around them.
Raven - The Performer
The Raven is a natural born performer. This piece represents the Raven’s playfulness as he stole the sun, only to offer it to all earth's creatures.
Wolf - The Protector Wolves always travel in packs and have strong family ties. They are loyal teachers.
Eagle - The Leader Eagles are spiritual guides exhibiting intelligence. They represent power, prestige, and symbolize loyalty.
Bentwood boxes were made to hold history, store regalia and other treasured items. These boxes of treasure help preserve ancestors' legacies. Another distinguishing aspect is their construction - traditionally they were steamed then bent
. The body of the container is constructed using only a single piece of West Coast cedar.
