Val Lancaster was born on January 25, 1967 in Matsqui, British Columbia, Canada. She moved to Alert Bay in 1984 where she is a member of the Namigis First Nation and lived there until 1998. For the past three years, Val has lived on Mayne Island where she began carving silver and gold jewellry in January 1999.
She was trained in the art of carving silver and gold jewellry by her brothers, John and Don Lancaster, of Victoria who have been carving for over 20 years. Val currently works from her home on Vancouver Island implementing both traditional and original concepts into her Native art.
