Chinook Salmon Chasing Herring was designed by Coast Salish artist, Joe Wilson (Sxwaset). Made on Vancouver Island out of 16 gauge stainless steel and black powder paint.
Salmon is seen as the giver of life, salmon represents prosperity and new beginnings. Herring plays a role in many indigenous origin stories.

Joe Wilson was born in 1967 into the Cowichan Tribes Native Band and was raised in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada. Since 1984 his work has reflected his search for his own cultural identity in Coast Salish art.
