Gilbert Pat was born in Sardis, BC and is a member of the Coast Salish Nation. He first began to carve jewellery in the 1970s and was mentored by Lloyd Wadham Sr., from whom he learned carving with fine detail and high craftsmanship. Before his career as a jewellery artist, Pat worked as a carpenter and commercial fisherman.
His jewellery is widely recognized as he has been working in Northwest Coast art for many years. He works primarily in sterling silver, creating bracelets, earrings, rings and pendants. In his long career, Pat has developed a distinctive style. His carvings are charming and whimsical but also incorporate traditional design elements of his Salish heritage. His work is widely loved and collected up and down the Northwest Coast.
