Necklace - Broken Copper with Abalone
This impressive necklace was hand cut and hammered carefully by Kingcome Inlet First Nation artist Clyde Dawson.
Abalone is a symbol of water, its calmness and tranquility protect us.
Pieces of Copper were hammered into the shape of a shield, were among the most valued items at Northwest Coast potlatches. Among the Kwakwaka'wakw, coppers increased in value each time they changed hands.
