Cowichan Knit Headbands
Coast Salish knitters, Dale Edwards and Lisa Mitchell, hand-knit these cozy headbands.
Contemporary Cowichan items are knit from natural, hand-spun, undyed sheep’s wool. This strong and stretchy yarn makes a sweater that keeps its shape. The high lanolin content of the wool makes a breathable water repellant and stain resistant sweater that keeps its wearer warm and dry while absorbing body moisture. If knitted items are taken care of, they should last for decades. Traditionally, they are passed down from generation to generation.
Whale is a symbol of great strength, bravery, family and unity.
Butterfly is a messenger that symbolizes metamorphosis, balance, and grace.
