Raven Mask on a Stand
Artist: Ross Henderson
These masks conform to certain strict elements of form and are trimmed with pounded natural and dyed-red shredded cedar bark. They can also be distinguished from each other by the individual characteristic of the beak and by each bird’s particular sound. The beaks are hinged so that the jaw can be snapped shut with a string pulled by the dancer from under the cedar bark trim. All of the masks are decorated with natural and dyed red cedar bark representing the feathers of these magnificent birds.
This mask is hand carved and painted by Northwest Coast First Nation artist Ross Henderson. This piece is made of red cedar, acrylic paint, and cedar bark.
The dimensions of the mask are 24" x 8" x 17".
