Mask - Ancestor Portrait

Kwakwaka'wakw First Nation artist Raymond Shaw hand carved and painted the Ancestor Portrait Mask. The mask is accented with black horse hair and acrylic paint.

Ancestors changed themselves from supernatural beings to human forms at specific locations along coastal waterways and rivers.
