Blue Glass Bead
'Russian Blue' glass beads were a valued trade item during the fur trade era on the Pacific Northwest Coast. The beads were made in glass factories in Bohemia and shipped across Russia to China, then shipped to Alaska and traded down the coast.
Blue is a rare colour in nature and the beads were held in high esteem by coastal peoples. Antique trade beads are treasured by collectors.
Reproduction beads, like this one are available today and allow everyone to experience a little bit of Northwest Coast History.
