Mask - I Own the Lightning Thunderbird
Ditidaht First Nation artist Russell Tate hand carved and painted this incredible I Own the Lightning Thunderbird mask. This mask is accented beautifully with abalone shell, remi human hair and acrylic paint.
The geometrical shapes are all placed to depict a Thunderbird. The shapes along the jawline, cheeks and temple represent the clouds with rain. Below the mouth is the tail, above the mouth is the claws, beneath the eyes is the wings, the brows represent the mountains where the Thunderbird resides and the head of the Thunderbird is on the forehead with Lightning in the temples.
