Rick Johnson is Ḵwikwa̱sut̕inux̱ and was born on Gilford Island, BC in November 1959. He is the great grandson of Master Carver Chief Herbert Johnson of Wakemen Sound and the grandson of Hubert Johnson and Sam Johnson from Wakemen Sound. Rick belongs to the Musgama Dzawada'enuxw Nation and is a member of the Gilford Island Band.
Rick started carving silver and gold in 1982 and apprenticed under Chief Frank Nelson and Patty Seaweed. He continues with his art inspired by his late grandfather Sam Johnson, Jack James as well as Allen James. Rick is an honourable Chief and is known for his traditional and very deep carving style.
